2013 - Armored Brigade 434/679
The reserve armored brigade 679 fought in the Yom Kippur War in the Golan Heights. Under the command of Ori Orr, who later became head of IDF Northern Command, they prevented the Syrian army from occupying the center of the Golan Heights.
The Brigade's Non-profit Association, that was established immediately after the war, aims to maintain contact with the families of the fallen and to impart its legacy to future generations. Many participants attend a memorial service held every year at the Golan Heights and an assembly is held at "Yad Lashiryon" in Latrun each decade.
In 2013, on the occasion of the 40th anniversary of the war, it was decided to start a tradition to award a bronze shield to the battalion excelled in the past year's activity. The shield was designed by sculptor Yael Erlichman.
